Downloading/Reviewing Family Tree Files -
Simply clicking on the link provided for any given family tree file may cause your web browser to attempt to open the file - or nothing will happen. If it opens, there is usually a button or link provided to save the file to your computer. Unfortunately, since there are so many options, you may have to search for that save button/link.
If you want to specifically download a file directly to your computer, do the following simple steps:
- Right-click on the file you wish to download. A small menu will appear.
- For Microsoft Internet Explorer visitors, choose the option that reads: Save Target As...
- For Firefox visitors, choose the option that reads: Save Link As...
- After clicking the link you will be prompted for where on your computer to save the file. Pick any convenient location you can remember.
If you do not have a program installed that will display Microsoft Excel files, you may wish to investigate the free reader offered by Microsoft. It is located through this link: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=10
Another alternative is to download the Apache Open Office Suite, which includes a spreadsheet program as part of the package. Learn more about this free alternative at this website: https://www.openoffice.org/
